Storycraft: Earthrise

Vaughn-Lee, E. & Loften A. (2019). Earthrise. Emergence Magazine.

Earth against the blackness of space.

Description: Earthrise takes is name and inspiration from NASA image AS08-14-2383 , taken by astronaut William Anders during the Apollo 8 mission in 1968, the first manned voyage to orbit the Moon.

The Earthrise multimedia experience provides the contextual story, experiences, memories, and media of the Apollo 8 astronauts, in an immersive ethnography of this historic event.  This iconic image had a powerful impact on the astronauts and the world, offering a perspective that transcended national, political, and religious boundaries. Told 50 years later, Earthrise compels us to remember this shift and to reflect on the Earth as a shared home.
